Wine Description
The Blagny climat, on the border between Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, is one of the highest slopes in the appellation. Its shallow, stony limestone soil, combined with a notable altitude of 350 meters, gives this Meursault 1er cru Blagny from the Thierry and Pascale Matrot wine estate a singular expression: straightforward, fine and intensely mineral. In this cuvée, the terroir encourages precise winemaking of Chardonnay, without heaviness, to sublimate the natural élan of the site.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Domaine Matrot's Meursault 1er cru Blagny is clearly off the beaten track. In this high-altitude expression, the Chardonnay takes on a taut dimension of incredible energy. This cuvée is aimed at Meursault lovers in search of a balance between acidity and fatness. This gourmet wine will need a few years in the cellar to reveal its full complexity.
The bouquet opens with ripe yellow fruit and lime blossom. In the background emerges a mineral framework with a stony imprint. With aeration, we sense the evolution of pastry notes and floral honey.
The palate displays precise tension, structured around lively acidity and assertive minerality. The texture remains enveloping, without heaviness. The brilliance of the fruit is supported by the wine's long structure. A long, saline finish lingers on a noble bitterness. Discreet ageing accompanies the substance without weighing it down. This 1er cru Blagny, designed for ageing, perfectly embodies the balance of the Murisaltien style, between tension and roundness. Perfect for lovers of great gourmet whites.
