The climat des Charmes, with its evocative name, is renowned for producing the most generous and seductive Meursault wines. The 30-year-old Chardonnay vines of Domaine Matrot stretch down the slope, on rich soils of clay mixed with limestone pebbles and a few traces of marl. The grapes are hand-harvested when fully ripe, before being pressed whole. The Meursault 1er cru Charmes from Domaine Thierry et Pascale Matrot draws its full body and velvety texture from this terroir, while retaining the freshness characteristic of the house style. Vinified and matured without excess, this is a balanced, precise wine, full of brilliance and depth.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Charmes is a prestigious 1er cru name, but in its Matrot wine estate version, it stands out for its just the right amount of power. This cuvée stands out for its density without any heaviness. It displays a superb balance between aromatic richness and chalky freshness. A great Burgundy white that expresses all the fleshy elegance of Meursault.

The nose opens with notes of ripe yellow fruit - mirabelle plum, vine peach - accompanied by white flowers, acacia honey and a fine touch of brioche. Hints of fresh hazelnut and damp chalk add complexity on aeration.

The palate is silky-textured, with good density and generous body. Despite its power, the wine retains a mineral line that balances the ripe richness of the Chardonnay. The finish stretches out on saline, crystalline notes. Underlying tension lends momentum and precision to the whole. A great Meursault from Domaine Matrot, as complete and seductive as it is harmonious.
