Wine Description

Situated high up on the northern slopes of Meursault, the Les Chevalières climat benefits from poor, well-drained stony soil, resting on a hard limestone slab. The Chardonnay vines benefit from this less sunny location than the lower slopes, producing a Meursault that's straighter, sharper and more precise. The Meursault Les Chevalières from Thierry and Pascale Matrot 's wine estate expresses all the mastery of a style without excess, pure and deeply mineral.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Les Chevalières is one of Meursault's finest climats. This cuvée from the Matrot wine estate is a fine illustration: mineral, chiselled, refined, with a restrained density that beckons gastronomy. This Meursault Les Chevalières has the élan of a 1er cru and the finesse of a high-altitude wine, which should be kept for 4-6 years or opened now with plenty of aeration.

The nose reveals a very fresh floral intensity, blending hawthorn, acacia flower and chamomile. Slightly smoky, stony notes mingle with a hint of lime and a discreet hint of toasted hazelnut, evoking the controlled ageing in barrel.

The attack is lively, elegantly carried by perfectly balanced linear acidity. Concentrated Chardonnay aromas are tempered by subtle, crystalline substance. A touch of minerality adds sapidity and rhythm to the mid-palate. The long, saline finish reinforces the wine's mineral dimension and confirms its ability to age well. A racy, digestible Meursault that favors momentum and mineral expression over power. A great wine of balance, both immediate and mature.
