Long description

Château Martet is an ancient château built in the 18th century by the Knights Templar on their pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. It was taken over in 1991 by Patrick de Coninck and Albert Michiels, who fell in love with this magnificent residence. It's idyllically situated on the banks of the Dordogne, between water and vines.

In 1998, Patrick de Coninck and Albert Michiels turned to the Mitjavile family of Château Tertre Roteboeuf for advice on viticulture and winemaking. Today, this family has become the driving force behind the Sainte Foy de Bordeaux appellation, producing wines of rare elegance and complexity. New working methods were introduced, including cordon pruning, disbudding, green harvesting, etc., all with the aim of producing the finest wines possible. Yields are tightly controlled, and it's thanks to this that great wines such as the 100% Merlot "Réserve de la Famille" cuvée are born.

In 2016, Patrick de Coninck died tragically, but the tradition continues thanks to his children, who are carrying on the work that has been going on for so long. Their top priority today is to preserve biodiversity and the terroirs they own.

Our favorites were the cuvée Les Hauts de Martet, a first wine that has no reason to be ashamed of the great Bordeaux appellations, and far surpasses many cuvées from well-known châteaux. The extraordinary cuvée Réserve de la Famille is quite simply the finest wine in the appellation. Entirely matured and vinified in association with the Mitjavile family.
