Long description
The history of Château de Messey began with Marc Dumont's acquisition of a 6-hectare wood in the village of Cruzille. This terroir, claimed and exploited by the monks of Cluny in the 12th century, is classified in the Mâcon-Cruzille appellation. Planting of this pretty clos began in 1989.
Three years later, the first grapes were harvested and vinified at Château de Messey in Ozenay. Built between the 11th and 16th centuries, this Romanesque fortress with its two opposing wings hosted numerous harvests throughout its history, until 1958. Thirty-five years later, the beautiful vaulted cellars once again welcomed fermenting wines, and it was in the same year that a parcel of Mâcon-Chardonnay was planted opposite the Château on the Crêts terroir.
Clos des Avoueries is a monopoly owned by Château de Messey, which now has 5.30 hectares of vines in the Mâcon-Cruzille appellation. This historic parcel is enclosed by boxwoods, small oaks and murgers. It is situated at an altitude of 400 m, with an easterly exposure to Mont Blanc, enabling the wines to retain a great deal of freshness. The terroir, very special for the Mâconnais, is composed of a thin layer of red clay laid on a very compact limestone slab. The wines are truly mineral in spirit, the hallmark of the Château!
We have selected five cuvées from the Mâcon Cruzille appellation that we consider to be the most interesting from Château de Messey. The "classic" Mâcon Cruzille, Mâcon Cruzille Monopole, Mâcon Cruzille Barre à Mine, Mâcon Cruzille Pierre Rouge and Mâcon Cruzille Calcaire.
Wines with a particularly interesting value for enjoyment.
