Domaine Sylvie Esmonin is an emblematic wine estate in Gevrey-Chambertin. Managed by Sylvie Esmonin, this family-run wine estate extends over some 7.8 hectares of vines, cultivated according to non-certified organic practices, with a strong predilection for the Pinot Noir grape variety.

Sylvie Esmonin joined the family wine estate in 1985, bringing with her a modern vision while respecting Burgundian traditions. She gradually converted the vineyards to organic practices, emphasizing respect for terroir and biodiversity. Passionate about viticulture, she devotes much of her time to the vines, ensuring meticulous attention to each plot.

The wine estate's vines are planted on clay-limestone soils, typical of the region, offering ideal conditions for pinot noir. Parcels include prestigious appellations such as Gevrey-Chambertin and Premier Cru Clos Saint-Jacques. Some vines are old, contributing to the complexity and depth of the wines produced.

Sylvie Esmonin is renowned for her judicious use of whole bunches during winemaking, a technique that varies according to cuvée and vintage. For example, Bourgogne Rouge and Côte de Nuits Villages are often entirely destemmed, while Gevrey-Chambertin Villages may contain around 30% whole bunches, Gevrey Vieilles Vignes around 60%, and Clos Saint-Jacques up to 70%. This approach is designed to bring a certain energy to the wines and encourage their harmonious evolution over the long term.

Domaine Sylvie Esmonin wines are renowned for their elegance and structure, typical of Gevrey-Chambertin. They combine firmness and finesse, with a silky texture that reflects the unique character of each terroir. Cuvées made from old vines offer remarkable concentration and depth, while Clos Saint-Jacques stands out for its complexity and exceptional ageing potential.
