Zind Humbrecht's Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl is a wine steeped in history, since the first written records of the terroir date back to 1324, when it was still called Erlach. Records of the time show that Windsbuhl was a wine paid for 3 times more than wines from other surrounding communes. A true renown that has endured over the years and continues to do so to the contrary.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl is located in the commune of Hunawihr, between the villages of Riquewihr and Ribeauvillé. The vineyard faces south-east and is perfectly sloped. The proximity of the forest tends to cool the atmosphere, but that's not its only particularity. The terroir is composed of Muschelkalk, rich in clay and limestone, giving the wine its unique mineral character.
On the nose, the wine is admirably noble, revealing scents of white flowers, dried roses and fir honey. This elegance is underscored by a pure touch of lemon zest and flinty nuances.
The palate is singularly balanced. The body is ample, the aromas vast. This is a wine that delights us with notes of mirabelle plum, sweet spices and citrus peel. Above all, we love the chalky minerality that delicately clings to the taste buds.
