Domaine Desvignes'Morgon Château Gaillard is a magnificent expression of the Gamay grape, typical of Beaujolais and the Morgon appellation. Produced from a parcel located to the north of the Morgon cru, near Fleurie, this wine reflects both the richness of its terroir and the craftsmanship of the Desvignes family.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The 80-year-old vines are deeply rooted in sand and granite soils, benefiting from an ideal southern exposure for optimal grape ripeness. The grapes are harvested by hand to preserve their integrity. Traditional winemaking, typical of Beaujolais, includes semi-carbonic maceration with 10% de-stemming. This method, combined with a 10-day vatting period, extracts the quintessential aromas and a balanced tannic structure. The wine is then aged for 7 months in cement vats, a practice that preserves the freshness and authenticity of the aromas while refining its texture.
The nose is seductive and expressive, blending ripe red fruit aromas such as strawberry and cherry with hints of violet, blackberry and a subtle spiciness. This aromatic complexity is accompanied by the floral freshness characteristic of the vintage.
On the palate, the attack is suave, with good density and silky texture. Red fruit flavors dominate, underpinned by a mineral framework that reflects the granite soil. The fine, delicate tannic structure offers depth and elegant persistence. The finish is long, balanced and slightly spicy, perfectly illustrating the "morgonneux" character typical of the appellation.
