The Pommard 1er Cru Clos Orgelot cuvée from Clos du Moulin aux Moines embodies the finest expression of this historic and exclusive monopole, whose Pinot Noir vines were planted in 1917. Nestled on the slopes of Pommard, Clos Orgelot is rooted in typical Burgundy clay-limestone soils, overlooking the Combe des Saussilles and benefiting from an ideal eastern exposure for the ripening of the grape variety. Faithful to its values of respect for the terroir, the wine estate follows a respectful, low-intervention approach to the plot and the winery: exclusively hand and horse viticulture, principles of organic and biodynamic viticulture, hand harvesting, fermentation in concrete vats, followed by 18 months' ageing in barrels, including a small proportion of new wood, to preserve the purity and finesse of the fruit.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Pommard 1er Cru Clos Orgelot du Clos du Moulin aux Moines is an invitation to explore the depth of the Pommard terroir through a rare monopole wine steeped in history. In the landscape of Burgundy wines, it stands out for the purity and concentration of its expression linked to the exceptional age of its vines. This 2017 vintage will still be able to evolve and reveal its full potential over a decade, while remaining accessible today thanks to its immediate silkiness. This vineyard, one of the oldest in Pommard, embodies the geological and human expression of a historic clos, committed to a viticulture of precision and grandiose gustatory truth.
On the nose, this cuvée seduces with its dense aromatic framework, where raspberries, black cherries, vine peaches and candied figs weave a deep, ripe web. A hint of licorice and orange peel mingle with the elegance of violets and the finesse of cloves and juniper berries.
The attack on the palate is of great finesse, carried by a silky texture of delicately enveloping density. The tannic structure, with the slightly woody hint of controlled ageing, offers an already velvety finesse that time will age delicately. The depth of the black fruit aromas is matched by the vibrancy of the sweet spices, stretching through to the finish, where the noble bitterness of the cocoa and tannins give the wine a majestic, salivating persistence.
