Vouvray Moelleux Réserve 2018 Clos Naudin | Loire

Clos Naudin's Vouvray Moelleux is one of the jewels of the wine estate. It is only produced when the vintage permits , and highlights the very best of Chenin: aromatic richness, generous body, elegance, minerality and phenomenal ageing potential. In short, it proves that Chenin is one of the world's greatest grape varieties.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : This Vouvray Moelleux is made from botrytized or passerillé grapes harvested by successive selections, berry by berry. Winemaking takes place in non-new barrels for 6 months, after which the wine rests quietly in tufa stone cellars for a few more months.

On the nose, the wine is dominated by notes of pear jelly, greengage, candied orange and lime. After a little oxygenation in the glass, notes of passion fruit and gingerbread develop.

The palate is fabulously indulgent, with all the lovely exotic notes of the nose, plus hints of honey, apricot and rosemary. The balance between sweetness and freshness is masterful. An airy, sensual wine on a par with France's finest moelleux.
