Wine Description
Domaine Patrick Jasmin 's Côte-Rôtie La Giroflarie embodies the rare balance between tradition and modern precision. On the steep slopes of the Côte Rôtie terroir, in the heart of the Rhône Valley, this cuvée draws its strength from the diversity of its soils: gneiss, micaschists, clay-limestone and stony sands. A subtle blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier, La Giroflarie comes from a mosaic of vineyards that Domaine Jasmin has been cultivating with great care for several generations. The vines are cultivated with respect for nature, and the hand harvest is carefully sorted. Winemaking takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats with indigenous yeasts, before ageing for 18 to 22 months in barrels, a quarter of which are new. Everything is designed to give the wines a structure worthy of standing the test of time, without betraying the essence of the Côte Rôtie terroir.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Côte-Rôtie La Giroflarie is a brilliant example of Patrick Jasmin's signature style. This cuvée is one of the finest expressions of Côte Rôtie, with an elegance that conceals neither depth nor evolutionary potential. In its youth, it charms with its aromatic brilliance and suppleness, but it is only after several years of cellaring that it reveals all its refinement, gaining in complexity and tertiary nobility. A further demonstration, if one were needed, of the talent of this great Rhône Valley winemaker.
On the nose, Côte Rôtie La Giroflarie reveals a bewitching array of black fruits such as blackberry and blackcurrant, whose perfect ripeness expresses itself with a delicious immediacy. A delicate floral weave of violet and peony mingles with hints of licorice, supported by a noble woody base that reveals the complexity of fine spices that need only a little time to blossom. A bouquet both generous and subtle, true to the elegance characteristic of Domaine Patrick Jasmin wines.
The mouth seduces with its silky texture and natural balance. The richness of juicy black fruit blossoms over fine tannins and perfectly integrated acidity. The finish continues with a delicately peppery mineral freshness and smoky touches that reflect the profound identity of Côte Rôtie La Giroflarie terroirs. An assertive classicism, in the noblest sense of the word, that shines through the heritage of Domaine Jasmin.
