Cyril Courvoisier ’sGranite takes its name from the Rochette terroir, located in a granite-rich area that accentuates the wine’s refined, mineral character. Rochette is a plot that Cyril Courvoisier cleared and planted himself, perched at an altitude of over 400 meters within the Saint-Péray appellation. The blend consists of approximately 50% Marsanne and 50% Roussanne, vinified by direct pressing. This wine is classified as a Vin de France in 2022—not by default, but by the winemaker’s choice.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Cyril Courvoisier’s Granite is a Rhône white unlike any other. Though fresher and more refined than most Saint-Pérays, it still retains a family resemblance; the acidity is well-preserved, and the wine displays remarkable balance and tension. It is a mineral, precise, lively, and incredibly refreshing white.
The nose offers clean, grape-forward aromas, with notes of peach, pear, and fresh flowers. A few citrus notes and a hint of honey enrich the profile, creating a profile that is both airy and precise—immediately revealing the high altitude and granite soils of Rochette.
On the palate, the attack is lively, mineral, and balanced, complemented by a briny finish with a subtle bitterness typical of granite soils. The decision to undertake ageing in neutral containers preserves all the energy of this invigorating and taut wine.
