Wine Description

Domaine De Montille's Volnay1er cru Les Champans is made from two parcels at the bottom and top of the hillside, facing south-east, in the center of the Volnay 1er cru appellation. The soil is mostly white limestone at the top of the hill. The further down, the deeper and redder the limestone becomes. The main characteristic of this Volnay 1er cru is its incredible finesse and fullness.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Etienne De Montille has done an exceptional job since his arrival at the wine estate. He has challenged himself not only in the winemaking process, but also in the vineyard. Thanks in particular to the switch to biodynamic viticulture, the wine has gained in precision and drinkability in its youth, while retaining remarkable ageing potential. This is an exceptional Volnay, one of the best on the market today.

On the nose, red fruits mingle with sweet spices in a still discreet but normal way for a Volnay 1er cru, which needs time to blossom. We recommend keeping this wine for at least 4 years before enjoying it.

The palate is fine, the tannins still present but not drying. Discreet notes of redcurrant, sandalwood and blueberry are elegantly revealed. This is a wine of great refinement, with a great future ahead of it. Patience for this terroir, which reveals all its nuances with time.
