Wine Description

Domaine des Lambrays ' Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbè is an exceptional wine, whose equally exceptional terroir has only recently returned to the wine estate fold. The plot of just over one hectare lies on clay-limestone and red earth soils, offering natural drainage and a mineral richness conducive to the expression of Pinot Noir. The vines are planted on a gentle east-facing slope, favoring optimal ripening of the grapes. Unusually, the Clos Sorbè vines stretch right through the village of Morey-Saint-Denis. After hand harvesting and delicate pressing, the musts are fermented with their own indigenous yeasts. Ageing lasts 15 to 18 months, with the proportion of new barrels varying around 25% depending on the vintage

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Domaine des Lambrays ' Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbè is a new wine from the wine estate, and we're delighted with it. Its more concentrated profile than Clos Baulet in no way detracts from the near-horlogical precision of its ageing, which here manages to integrate the whole-bunch harvest with rare mastery. A few years' rest in the cellar will reveal the full nobility of this still exclusive cru.

The nose is powerful and complex, revealing intense aromas of red fruits such as raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant, enhanced by subtle floral notes of violet and delicate spicy nuances.

On the palate, the wine is remarkably deep and velvety. Ripe red fruit flavors intertwine with spicy touches and a light woody note, testifying to barrel ageing. Tannins are present but perfectly integrated, giving the wine a balanced, elegant structure. The finish is long and persistent, evoking cherries in brandy and leaving an impression of freshness and refinement.
