Wine Description

The best of the Catalan coast

Just like the big cuvée Coume Gineste in white, Muntada is the great red cuvée of the Gauby estate. Lionel Gauby, who has since taken over the estate decided to give another style to this wine to make it more accessible in youth. The soils of limestone marnes needing time to flourish if the extraction of grapes is more important. The assembly of very old vines de black grenachecarignan and syrah brings the wine a nice balance. The yield is extremely low on this plot since the estate only hard manages to reach 11hl/ha.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Lionel Gauby gave a new breath to this cuvée Muntada. It now performs very short macerations with little color extractions and tannins in order to keep as fresh as possible. A very different approach from his father Gérard Gauby who made him wines almost black as the color was concentrated. The style is much thinner.

In the nose, the spice notes are immediately revealed. Cardamom, nutmeg, slightly musky notes. The point of hardiness reminds us that it is located on a solar terroir and that the vinification takes place in a very natural way, but I specify, without any aromatic deviations, it is very important.

In the mouth, the attack is very supple, silky, tannins are still well present but the wine already reveals itself well. He obviously deserves 5 to 10 years or more on duty for the most patient to develop all his potential and an interesting aromatic palette.
