Wine Description
Coume Gineste is the flagship white cuvée of the Gauby wine estate. Gérard Gauby, father of Lionel, the current winemaker, wanted to highlight the exceptional potential of his Roussillon terroirs. Thanks to this cuvée, he has made a name for himself, rivaling the greatest wines of Burgundy and the Rhône Valley. This cuvée is clearly the equivalent of a grand cru from a renowned winemaker. The blend is made from very old Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris vines, the oldest of which are around one hundred years old. The vines face due north, ensuring freshness at maturity.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Coume Gineste is, along with Muntadal, one of the most emblematic cuvées of the Gauby wine estate. It is aged in old foudres for two years to bring a patina to the material. A wine of great purity that deserves to be kept for at least three to four years. An intense, charming wine, clearly the grand cru white of the wine estate.
Incredibly complex on the nose. Concentrated notes of candied lemon, apricot, white peach and a hint of pastry emerge. After oxygenation, more rocky notes emerge, along with a pleasant touch of almond and hazelnut.
On the palate, the purity of the schist terroir is revealed. The balance is just right. The substance blends perfectly with the minerality. The finish ends with magnificent touches of bitterness and a hint of salinity. The wine you'd dream of drinking.
