Wine Description
The Côte Rôtie Blonde du Seigneur from the Georges Vernay wine estate is a cuvée from the Côte Blonde. It is 95% Syrah, with a hint of Viognier (5%), which is authorized in the Côte Rôtie appellation. This cuvée is the pride and joy of Christine Vernay, current winemaker at the Georges Vernay wine estate. She considers this cuvée to be one of the most sensual in the entire range. The vines are very old, with an average age of around 30 years. This Côte Rôtie perfectly combines power and delicacy.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: The cuvée Blonde du Seigneur is a highly reputed Côte Rôtie, a wine that put the Georges Vernay wine estate on the map. This wine is aged for 18 months in barrels, 25% of which are new, and selected with the greatest care to bring just the right amount to the wine. The harvest is partially destemmed to preserve a more accessible aspect and a delicacy in the matter and tannins. This cuvée is more accessible when young. It is nonetheless complex and deep.
On the nose, the finesse of winemaking and the grace of the terroir are immediately apparent. Elegant notes of black olive and pepper emerge. The smoky, mineral touch so characteristic of this Blonde du Seigneur cuvée is present without opulence.
The palate is superbly constructed, perfectly limpid, with tannins of a suavity and sensuality unmatched on Côte Rôtie. The aromas are precise, as complex and varied as on the nose. The finish is long and lingering.
