Condrieu "Les Terrasses de l'Empire" 2023 Georges Vernay | Rhône

Georges Vernay 's Condrieu "Les Terrasses de l'Empire" is an emblematic cuvée made mainly from the Sainte-Agathe and La Caille vineyards in the commune of Condrieu. The vines, on average 40 years old, are planted at high density on steep slopes with granitic soils. Because of the steep slope, all viticultural work is carried out by hand, guaranteeing meticulous attention to every vine. The wine estate, certified organic since 2020, also adopts biodynamic practices, reflecting a deep commitment to preserving the local ecosystem.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Over the years, Christine Vernay has precisely refined her winemaking methods. Most of the Terrasses de l'Empire cuvée is aged in truncated wooden vats, on fine lees. Only a small proportion (around 10%) is aged in barrels for eight months. This choice of ageing in vats is particularly relevant to recent vintages, often rich and powerful in the appellation.

The nose is expressive and refined, revealing aromas of white peach, ripe apricot and white flowers such as acacia and jasmine. Subtle notes of candied citrus zest and a touch of honey enrich the bouquet

On the palate, the attack is full and velvety, with a lovely roundness. Flavors of stone fruit blend harmoniously with spicy nuances and saline minerality. The finish is long, fresh and balanced, leaving a delicate, lingering impression
