Wine Description

In the heart of the Beaujolais region, on the legendary slopes of the Côte du Py, Jean Foillard 's Morgon Côte du Py is the absolute benchmark of the vintage. Here, it all begins with the decomposing schist and granite soils, where the Gamay vines, some of which are almost a hundred years old, draw a singular depth. Since the 1980s, the Jean Foillard wine estate has built its reputation on a simple philosophy: reveal the purity of terroir without artifice. Organic viticulture, hand-harvesting and gentle whole-bunch winemaking createa lively, sincere red wine. After a natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the wine rests 6 to 9 months in old oak barrels to sculpt its texture. No sulfites are added, as the Jean Foillard wine estate is one of the pioneers of natural wine in the Beaujolais region.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Jean Foillard 's Morgon Côte du Py is one of those rare wines capable of uniting power and grace. Its personality embodies all that Beaujolais has to offer: full body, vibrant energy and that inimitable floral touch that is the hallmark of great Morgon wines. Its depth and precision often earn it comparisons with some of the great wines of the Côte de Nuits. Its youth already reveals remarkable balance, but those who wait a few years will discover a natural wine of rare complexity, nuance and length.

The wine develops intense, greedy notes of black cherry and blueberry, mingled with characteristic scents of peony and violet. Aeration brings out complex notes of blood orange, fine spices and undergrowth, as well as a fine licorice accent. A hint of graphite lingers in the background, recalling the nature of the granite soils.

On the palate, the wine seduces with its delicacy and finesse. The tannic structure is silky, enveloped in juicy, pure fruit, where the intensity of red and black fruits and the liveliness of spices are balanced with admirable mineral tension. The whole combines freshness, structure and depth, with a finish of almost Burgundian finesse, as ample as it is precise, a hallmark of the great wines of the Jean Foillard wine estate. A Morgon of emotion, both sensual and straightforward, capable of withstanding the years with flying colors!
