Morgon Vieilles Vignes 2025 Marcel Lapierre | Beaujolais
Marcel Lapierre’s Morgon Vieilles Vignes is made from Gamay grapes grown on granitic sandy soil, vinified as whole clusters using native yeasts and aged for 9 months in barrels. Its aromas of black cherry and violet, along with the taut minerality characteristic of the Morgon terroir, make it a benchmark for natural Beaujolais —a style that Mundovin championed with conviction.

Jean Foillard 's Morgon is the essential gateway to the world of this iconic Beaujolais winemaker. This signature cuvée from the Jean Foillard wine estate perfectly embodies the spirit of the cru: a wine for immediate pleasure, yet endowed with a rare depth. Since the 1980s, Jean Foillard has been crafting soulful wines from schist and granite soils planted with old Gamay vines. This Morgon comes from several emblematic terroirs of the appellation, including the famous Côte du Py, the beating heart of the cru, whose decomposed rock gives the wine its mineral depth and singular tension. The philosophy of the Jean Foillard wine estate remains unchanged, even in its most accessible cuvées, both red and white: organic farming, hand harvesting, natural winemaking with indigenous yeasts, no added sulfur. After aging for four to five months in vats, this natural wine is offered with purity and sincerity, true to its terroir and the free spirit of the wine estate.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Jean Foillard 's Morgon cuvée perfectly illustrates the vision of this now cult winemaker in the Beaujolais region, for whom the artisan sublimates nature without ever constraining it. This natural wine is both easy-drinking and refined, at the crossroads of gourmandise, suppleness and depth. It's a red wine of balance, sincerity and, above all, immediate pleasure, but it can also be kept for a few years to reveal its full potential, while we wait for the great cuvées!
On the nose, it reveals a dazzling bouquet of fresh red fruit: crisp cherry, wild raspberry and fresh redcurrant, punctuated by notes of peony and violet. A hint of green pepper and aromatic herbs follow, with a mineral freshness typical of Côte du Py terroirs.
On the palate, the magic happens immediately, with a juicy, fleshy texture. Wild berries rub shoulders with a touch of sweet pepper, marjoram and licorice in an absolute gourmet experience. The silky texture of the tannins stretches the body of the wine, carried by an invigorating acid framework whose graphite minerality balances the richness of the fruit. The finish expresses all the purity of an artisan Morgon, between fruity persistence and salivating minerality. A vibrant, sincere, natural wine that carries the soul of Beaujolais high!
