Wine Description

Like Coteaux de Tupin, Côte Rôtie Coteaux de Bassenon from the Jean Michel Stéphan wine estate is located in the south of the appellation. The difference lies mainly in the more southerly exposure of the vines and the blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Viognier. The wines are therefore more easily accessible when young, and express themselves with a beautiful suavity.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Côte Rôtie Coteaux de Bassenon is named after the stream at the bottom of the parcel's slope. This cuvée, a blend of Syrah and Viognier, shows great flattery and charm from the very first years. A wine ofrefined expression that reveals itself with great finesse.

On the nose, the wine immediately reveals the particularity of its terroir, with scents of pencil lead, touches of elderflower, blueberry and juniper berries. After an hour's opening, notes of leather and hints of balsamic make their appearance.

The palate is invigorating, with a freshness and depth unusual for Côte Rôtie, especially on this particular terroir. There are beautiful graphite notes reminiscent of minerality, with hints of dried prunes, black pepper and cloves. A wine as complex as it is easy to digest.
