Wine Description

The Montée de Tonnerre Chablis Premier Cru from the Jean Paul and Benoit Droin wine estate is one of the best Premier Crus on the right bank. The vines grow on soil that is very chalky and marly, typical of the Chablis region. They are also traversed by a vein of blue clay that imparts that unique minerality. The vines are over 50 years old and face west, providing moderate sun exposure for the Chardonnay. Production is extremely limited, with only 9,500 bottles produced worldwide for this highly sought-after cuvée.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: The Montée de Tonnerre Premier Cru is my favorite climat among the Chablis Premier Crus. It displays a taut, mineral profile and exceptional aging potential. Jean Paul and Benoît Droin opted for a blend of half oak barrel and half stainless steel for winemaking to preserve freshness while allowing for micro-oxygenation of the wine.

The nose is simply as clear as crystal. The sense of purity it exudes is indescribable. There is, of course, a dominant mineral structure with hints of flint, wet pebbles, and a touch of fresh grass and mint.

On the palate, the wine is just as crystalline as on the nose. Aromas of citrus and white peach blend beautifully with the mineral and briny notes. A great Chablis that deserves Grand Cru status.

A must-try from Chablis!
