Wine Description

The Iglesia Vella cuvée from the Le Roc des Anges wine estate is a 100% Grenache Gris whose vines were planted in 1954 on superficial soils composed of schist andpure clay rich in silica. This particular terroir gives the wine a highly crystalline appearance and an outstanding minerality that is unique in the sector.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Iglesia Vella, which means "old church" in Catalan, is a parcel that was planted near the village church. It's a singular terroir, just like plot 1903 on the same wine estate. Marjorie Gallet chose to ferment and age this Grenache Gris in 500-liter 3-wine barrels. This wine is in keeping with the style of the wine estate, expressing its terroir in a pure and precise manner.

On the nose, the wine impresses with its filigree elegance. Notes of acacia, jasmine, hints of chamomile and a superb mineral imprint. This schist bedrock even reveals surprising hints of iodine and menthol.

The palate is extremely precise, bursting with purity. This Grenache Gris has a rare elegance and shows its best in the first few years, but will gain in complexity with a few more years of cellaring.
