Wine Description
Domaine Marcel Lapierre 's Morgon Vieilles Vignes comes from vines planted on the granite and schist soils characteristic of this emblematic Beaujolais appellation. These poor, well-drained soils force the vines' roots to dive deep for nutrients, intensifying the concentration and richness of the grapes. On this terroir, the almost century-old Gamay vines of the Marcel Lapierre estate naturally produce low yields of very high quality, bringing great aromatic intensity and incomparable complexity to the cuvées. Winemaking is carried out using natural methods, with no sulfur added and using indigenous yeasts for fermentation. Grapes are hand-picked, carefully selected and vinified as whole bunches. Traditional carbonic maceration is used to gently extract aromas and tannins before ageing in oak barrels for several months, adding subtle nuances and structure to the wine.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : For me, this cuvée evokes the essence of Beaujolais. A wine-growing region with qualitative potential that is often overlooked or even shunned, it nevertheless harbors treasures within its appellations, and this Morgon Vieilles Vignes from Marcel Lapierre is a perfect illustration. The level of richness, depth and aromatic intensity displayed by the Gamay grapes in this cuvée makes it a must-have, whether you're an enlightened wine connoisseur or a curious novice.
On the nose, this Morgon Vieilles Vignes stands out for the intensity of its characteristic aromas: black cherry, blackcurrant, raspberry, violet and finely minty licorice express themselves without restraint. When slightly evolved mineral notes appear with aeration, this bouquet becomes simply dazzling.
On the palate, the wine is marked by the harmony between marked structure, silky texture and aromatic freshness. The minerality typical of the Morgon terroir and the fine Gamay tannins add both lightness and depth, and the remarkably long finish suggests ageing potential of several decades.
