Wine Description
Domaine Marcel Lapierre 's Morgon Cuvée Marcel Lapierre embodies the beating heart of the wine estate, and sums up the free, lively spirit of this pioneer of natural wine. Located in Villié-Morgon, the vines are rooted in the crumbly granite soils of the Morgon appellation in northern Beaujolais, where Gamay grapes find remarkably intense expression. This cuvée pays homage to Marcel Lapierre, a visionary figure who left his mark on the winegrowing landscape in the 1980s, opposing standardized wines in favor of straightforward, unadorned juice. The grapes come from vines that are an average of 45 years old, organically cultivated using biodynamic practices, and harvested by hand, with meticulous attention paid to each vine. The philosophy of Domaine Marcel Lapierre has always been the same: let the grape, the place and the vintage speak for themselves. Winemaking is faithful to the Lapierre method, with no sulfur added at bottling, semi-carbonic maceration and ageing in old foudres to preserve the freshness and energy of the fruit.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Deep and vibrant, this Cuvée Marcel Lapierre combines pure fruit with remarkable energy, in line with the style initiated by Marcel Lapierre. It's a wine that belongs at the table now, yet offers the potential to evolve over the next eight years. A superb demonstration of the purest, most authentic Beaujolais.
The nose reveals a charming bouquet of ripe Gamay: black cherry, sweet licorice and fresh violets mingle with touches of rose and juicy raspberry, the signature of Morgon crus. A lightly woody, balsamic note lingers in the background, bringing depth and elegance to the whole.
Dense and seductive on the palate, with silky tannins supporting concentrated, pure fruit. Well-balanced acidity gracefully counterbalances the roundness, giving the whole a delightful dynamic. The cherry and licorice flavors are enhanced by a floral and mineral touch reminiscent of the parcel's granite soil. The finish lingers with elegance, a persistent reflection of a true Morgon nature, vibrant and assertive.
