Maxime Magnon’s Corbières rosé, “Métisse ,” challenges the conventions of rosé as we know it with elegant audacity. Blended from Grenache Noir, Cinsault, Carignan, and Syrah, it is crafted from the clay-limestone and schist soils of the Hautes-Corbières, at an elevation of 200 meters, from vines averaging 80 years of age. Here, there’s no pale, soulless rosé: Maxime Magnon, a Burgundian by adoption who has lived in Villeneuve-les-Corbières since 2002, has created a gastronomic rosé of rare intensity.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Maxime Magnon ’s Corbières rosé “Métisse” is unlike any other rosé in the Corbières region. Magnon’s inimitable style is fully expressed here: Grenache brings fruit and vibrancy, Cinsault brings suppleness and drinkability, Carignan provides a subtle yet distinct structure, and Syrah adds a spicy touch that ties the whole wine together. It is a full-bodied, lively wine that improves with age and calls for a meal worthy of it.

The nose is powerful and very open right from the start, revealing notes of potpourri, fresh thyme, garrigue, and orange blossom. Mediterranean spices develop on the second nose, while a hint of strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry jam adds richness and vibrant fruitiness.

The palate is full-bodied, smooth, and substantial, with perfectly integrated tannins that give the wine its distinctive, vinous character. The freshness is intense, supported by a lovely liveliness; the finish lingers on red fruits and sweet spices, long and complex.
