Wine Description
Graeme and Julie Bott 's Condrieu is a blend of two parcels of Viognier onpredominantly granitic soils typical of the Northern Rhône. One of the plots faces south and the other east, giving the grapes a well-balanced maturity. At Domaine Bott, the grapes are harvested by hand and fermented naturally. After 9 months ageing in barrels, the Viognier reveals all its fullness and vivacity.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Condrieu is one of the mythical appellations of the northern Rhône Valley. Graeme and Julie Bott are well aware of this, and work passionately to ensure that their wines live up to the reputation of this emblematic cru. Their perseverance pays off, as they produce a wine of incredible precision, the opposite of the stereotypical opulent Condrieu. Domaine Bott's cuvées reveal a depth and energy that elevate them year after year to the Rhône's elite.
On the nose, the wine is at its best, displaying complex notes with exotic and floral accents of great finesse. The expression of Viognier is pure, with hints of fresh apricot, verbena and acacia honey. A hint of citron and white flowers develop elegantly with aeration.
The palate is full-bodied and rich on the attack, gradually refined by the acidity of the granite terroir. The wine's taut, fresh profile reveals the round aromas of stone fruits, white flowers and the slightly buttery touch of barrel ageing. The finish settles into this roundness, and continues with a very fine élan.
