Wine Description
Romain Le Bars ' Lirac Rouge is one of the finest expressions of this discreet appellation on the right bank of the Rhône Valley. Produced from old vines cultivated by hand on sandy, pebbly soils characteristic of the southern Rhône terroir, this wine immediately reveals the winemaker's demanding, vibrant signature. Romain Le Bars has chosen to focus on a precise blend of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan, drawn from carefully cultivated plots and vinified in whole bunches to preserve the purity of the fruit and the finesse of the tannins.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Romain Le Bars' Lirac Rouge embodies the elegance and depth of the Southern Rhône. The wine is dense and juicy, with pure fruit and subtle salinity. This balance between structure and finesse testifies to an unparalleled mastery of blending, without giving rise to a feeling of technicality. On the contrary, the tasting experience is marked by fluidity, delicacy and gourmandise. A joyful, racy wine, proving that Lirac can rival the great Rhône appellations.
The nose opens with intense aromas of blackberry, violet and garrigue. Finer touches of black pepper and mentholated licorice appear with aeration, with a mineral depth reminiscent of warm rock. The whole is expressive and frank, heralding the wine's freshness.
On the palate, the wine asserts itself with greed and power in a generous body with a silky touch, structured by remarkable tension. The acidity energizes the whole, bringing balance and drinkability. The long, clean finish reveals a subtle bitterness of orange peel, concluding with an energizing salinity.
