Wine Description

The Vacqueyras Les Restanques de Cabassole from the Roucas Toumba wine estate is a blend ofold Grenache vines (60%), Syrah (27%), Mourvèdre (10%) and a touch of white grapes (around 3%). The terroirs of each vineyard are very different. Syrah is planted on calcareous clay and pebbles, Grenache on sand and marl, and Mourvèdre on calcareous sandstone. Each grape variety therefore flourishes in a different soil, giving the wine remarkable balance and depth.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The Roucas Toumba wine estate produces authentic Vacqueyras at very low yields, around 20 hectoliters per hectare. Eric Bouletin doesn't want to soften his wines by using barrels or minimizing maceration. For him, a Vacqueyras is a powerful, rustic, sanguine and animal wine. There's no room for make-up and restructuring to appeal to the majority. This Vacqueyras Les Restanques is divisive but seductive for lovers of wines with character.

On the nose, the wine reveals smoky, leathery, cocoa notes. It's a wine with dark, spicy notes and ripe fruit.

On the palate, the attack is powerful, with lovely, ripe tannins. Hints of cocoa and spice are present, with added intensity. A rustic, sanguine and truly authentic wine.
