Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair 's Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is rooted in the heart of a legendary terroir, in the southern part of Clos Vougeot, on a long parcel marked by soil variations and adjoining the Echézeaux climat. On one of the most prestigious climates in the Côte de Nuits, Pinot Noir finds an exceptional setting and flourishes on three types of soil: stony clay, clay and limestone pebbles, and silty clay. Thibault Liger-Belair, heir to a family tradition emblematic of Burgundy, works his vines with passion and almost surgical precision. Favoring natural viticulture, in particular biodynamic viticulture, he brings out the typicity of Burgundy Pinot Noir. His Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is the fruit of this meticulous attention to every stage, from harvesting to ageing.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : This Clos Vougeot Grand Cru from the Thibault Liger-Belair wine estate is a jewel of subtle balance between vibrant tension and restrained power. The dense flesh of the Pinot Noir asserts itself without heaviness, carried by an incomparable natural elegance. The terroir expresses itself with razor-sharp precision, blending chiseled minerality with deep spices that linger on the palate. A Clos Vougeot of finesse, sincere complexity and rare sensitivity.
The nose opens with an intense, refined bouquet. First, delicate aromas of black cherry and stewed red fruit, evoking morello cherry and ripe raspberry. Deep notes of undergrowth answer the scents of nutmeg and sandalwood. The overall impression is airy, promising great complexity
On the palate, the wine lives up to its promise. The texture is silky and dense, enveloping the palate with racy elegance. The fine, well-integrated tannins provide harmonious structure, while the freshness of the acidic structure energizes the whole, perfectly balancing the richness of the fruit. The black cherry flavors are accompanied by subtle earthy and mineral touches that bear witness to the Clos Vougeot terroir. The finish is long, persistent and slightly bitter, inviting you to take the next sip.
