Chardonnay de la Reculée 2023 Domaine Pignier | Jura

Domaine Pignier's Côtes du Jura "Chardonnay de la Reculée" is a Chardonnay grown on the south-facing terroir of Val de Vallière, opposite the famous Montaigu terroir. The soil is composed of limestone marl from the Lias, schist and clay.

The special feature of this cuvée lies in the grape variety used:"Melon à Queue Rouge". This typically Jurassian Chardonnay variety expresses a richer character. This is one of the most successful wines from Domaine Pignier in Montaigu.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: The "Chardonnay de la Reculée" cuvée is a superb, gourmet wine. Here, the chardonnay reveals rather floral notes that bring a sensation of freshness. It's a rather original wine, not at all oxidative. It's much closer to a Burgundy from the Côte Chalonnaise than to an unoaked Chardonnay from the Jura.

The nose reveals very fresh scents, with notes of lime blossom, cedar, humus and superb notes of preserved lemon. You can sense that the grapes are both ripe and located on soil that adds sparkle.

On the palate, the wine is rather round, very greedy and well-balanced. There are elegant floral and herbaceous notes, a touch of fresh rhubarb, straw and a superb minerality on the finish that gives the wine length. A very surprising Côtes du Jura in the best sense of the word.
