Long description

Domaine Pignier has been a family-run wine estate since 1794, and currently boasts 15 hectares of vines, mainly in the Côtes du Jura appellation.

It is now the 7th generation of winemakers to officiate at the wine estate, carrying on the tradition. The three members of the family (Jean-Etienne, Antoine and Marie-Florence) have all decided to produce wines that respect nature. That's why they converted the entire wine estate to biodynamic viticulture in 2002.

Biodynamic viticulture enables them to produce wines that are more refined and elegant, and more suited to ageing. A loss of yield is felt, as they voluntarily choose to limit themselves in order to improve the quality of the grapes. The average yield is 35hl/ha, which is very low for the sector.

Their primary aim is to bring out the typicity of their terroir, which is why they only use plant-based preparations.

Domaine Pignier wines are always made with impressive mastery, displaying a purity and elegance worthy of the finest Jura wines. Two cuvées of Jura reds reflect this image, the cuvée de Trousseau and the Trousseau Les Gauthières, which are certainly the finest representations of the Trousseau grape variety today.

The Crémant range is also remarkably well-crafted, notably the Crémant L' autre cuvée, made without added sulfur, which is unrivalled in its delicacy and minerality.

And their Vin Jaune is up there with the best in the region.

The whites combine character and class, and are the hallmark of this wine estate, which is less in the media and more recognized by purists. Even so, Jean-Etienne Pignier and his family have been awarded 2 stars in the Guide des meilleurs vins de France, on a par with Domaine Labet, for example.
