Wine Description

Domaine Zind-Humbrecht's Muscat Grand Cru Goldert comes from the prestigious Grand Cru Goldert located north of the commune of Gueberschwihr, south of Colmar. This gently sloping, east-facing hillside benefits from generous sunshine, guaranteeing balanced acidity and nuanced aromatic expression. The terroir is characterized by a unique substrate of oolitic limestone, giving the wines structure and ageing potential. Muscat accounts for a considerable proportion of the vineyard's grape varieties, mainly small-grain muscats, supplemented by muscat ottonel. The grapes are grown using certified biodynamic methods, with slow, natural fermentations. Ageing takes place in traditional large tuns, with extended time on fine lees, aiming for texture and integration rather than the mark of wood.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: this Muscat Grand Cru Goldert from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht illustrates a demanding interpretation of Alsatian Muscat. It stands out in the wine estate's range for its more assertive structure and deeper minerality, far from the merely aromatic or immediate profiles. Goldert is a benchmark in the winemaking landscape for connoisseurs looking for a muscat de terroir capable of evolving gracefully and competing in complexity with other great dry whites.

The nose is intense and precise, revealing fruity notes of fresh grapes, citrus zest and lychee. Floral aromas of orange blossom and rose follow elegantly. A chalky mineral framework and a hint of spice add structure and complexity to the bouquet. With aeration, the bouquet gains in depth with nuances of stone fruit, honey and chiselled grass, revealing the subtle, complex dimension of the limestone terroir.

The palate combines freshness and density, supported by racy acidity that structures the substance. Flavors of juicy white grapes, peach, ripe citrus fruit and a persistent mineral salinity are part of a texture that is both slender and enveloping. The finish is long, straight and vibrant, the signature of great Goldert muscats. Domaine Zind Humbrecht reveals the full balance of its exceptional terroir in this Grand Cru. This grand vin continues the tradition of the Domaine's Alsace wines, combining consistency and purity of expression.
