Long description

Rémy Pédréno is the undisputed star of Gard wines

The Roc d'Anglade wine estate is owned by Rémy Pédréno in the commune of Langlade, near Nîmes in the Gard department. It was created in 1999 by the Pédréno family, who produce prodigiously complex wines. The Roc d'Anglade wine estate opted out of the AOC label in order to avoid all the constraints associated with it, in particular the restriction to certain grape varieties. It is this freedom of choice of grape varieties that has enabled the wine estate to produce wines of such quality from such unique terroirs. Roc d'Anglade comprises 10 hectares of vines, divided into plots as diverse as they are varied. The oldest vines are up to 60 years old. Most of the terroir is composed of clay, silt and marl.

Under the appellation Vins de Pays du Gard, this property, set on the finest terroirs in the village of Langlade, was awarded the famous Blason Viticole in 1696 by Louis XIV. Just before the Phylloxera crisis at the end of the 20th century, the reputation of Langlade wines was on a par with the great wines of Burgundy. The soils of Roc d'Anglade are quite similar to those of Burgundy: one third clay, one third silica and one third silt.

Singular grape varieties and carefully tended vines

The wine estate's grape varieties are quite distinctive, with Chenin accounting for over 70% of the white. Rémy Pédréno has also chosen to age his wines in old foudres. This makes a real difference from other Languedoc winemakers who are used to using barrels or concrete vats.
