The wine estate is now run by the seventh generation of winemakers, who continue the family tradition. The three family members (Jean-Etienne, Antoine, and Marie-Florence) have all decided to produce wines with respect for nature. That is why they converted the entire wine estate to biodynamic farming in 2002.

Working biodynamically allows them to produce wines that are more refined and elegant, and suited for aging. They experience a loss in yield because they deliberately choose to limit production in order to improve the quality of the grapes. The average yield is 35 hl/ha, which is very low for the region.

Their primary goal is to highlight the distinctive character of their terroir; to this end, they use only plant-based preparations.

The wines of Domaine Pignier are always crafted with impressive skill and display a purity and elegance worthy of the Jura’s greatest wines. Two Jura red cuvées epitomize this approach: the Trousseau cuvée and the Trousseau Les Gauthières, which are undoubtedly the finest expressions of the Trousseau grape variety today.

The Crémant range is also remarkably well-crafted, particularly the cuvée Crémant L’Autre, produced without added sulfur and offering unparalleled richness and minerality.

And how could we not mention their Vin Jaune, which ranks among the region’s very best?

The white wines combine character and class and are the hallmark of this low-profile wine estate, which is more highly regarded by purists. This does not prevent Jean-Etienne Pignier and his family from boasting two stars in the Guide to the Best Wines of France—on par with Domaine Labet, for example.
