Clos Naudin is an essential wine estate for all lovers of great Vouvray and, quite simply, Chenin. These wines are extremely elegant, racy and capable of withstanding the years with incredible panache. The Foreau family has been established since 1910 and has been writing the history of the appellation for over a century, producing dry, semi-dry, sweet and syrupy Vouvray wines.
Philippe Foreau has run the 12-hectare wine estate since 1983. He is fortunate to own one of the finest vineyard estates in Vouvray. In particular, the vines are located on the hillside and occupy the "perruches" climate, those famous soils composed of clay and flint that give so much depth to the wines.
Most of the vines are half a century old and are regularly replaced by massal selections. Particular care is taken in the cultivation methods to respect the life of the soil as much as possible.
In the cellar, Philippe Foreau strives to preserve the integrity of the fruit so that it expresses its terroir with the utmost purity. Chenin's ability to convey the minerality and freshness of the terroir is fabulous at Clos Naudin. It has to be said that Philippe Foreau has exceptional olfactory skills, and would have been a perfume nose without a care in the world.
Little by little, Philippe Foreau is handing over the reins to his son Vincent Foreau, who is demonstrating his exacting standards and mastery through his wines. We're clearly following in Philippe's footsteps, and he insists that his son will do even better than him in the years to come.
