Gour de Chaulé wine estate

The Gour de Chaulé wine estate is located in the historic heart of Gigondas, and extends over 10 hectares and 23 parcels throughout the appellation. The diversity of the terroirs contributes to creating a vast aromatic palette in the wines produced at the wine estate. The average age of the vines is 55 years, and the oldest parcel on the wine estate dates back to 1901.

At the Gour de Chaulé wine estate, there's no race for yields: we don't exceed 35 hectolitres per hectare, and the result is felt in the glass. It's thanks to a constant respect for the vines and their environment that the Fumoso family has reached this level of quality.

The family have always been firm believers in Grenache as the heart and soul of Gigondas, and have passed this philosophy on to their daughter, Stéphanie. As a result, 85% of the vineyard is planted with Grenache, with around 10% dedicated to Syrah and Mourvèdre, and the balance to Cinsault.

Another special feature of this wine estate is that it has been run by women for three generations. It is also the first wine estate in Gigondas to use grass cover, so that the vines can draw water from deep within the soil and no longer suffer from water stress.

Successive generations have also taken care to keep as many vines as possible "en franc de pied", i.e. vines that have resisted phylloxera.

As for winemaking, we use traditional methods in concrete vats, giving a strong personality to all the Gigondas wines we produce, while retaining the finesse that truly characterizes the Gour de Chaulé family style.

The cuvées we were lucky enough to be able to list are the Gigondas Tradition cuvée, Gigondas Le Numéro Huit and Gigondas 7 Le Gour.
