Catherine Riss is a young winemaker from Alsace who started out on a fairly traditional path. She began by earning a BTS in viticulture in Beaune and then went on to specialize in oenology in Dijon. Finally, she decided to do an internship with Jean Louis Trapet in Burgundy, one of the best winemakers in the entire Côte de Nuits.

Other experiences followed, notably a stint at Chapoutier to learn the ins and outs of the wine market.

Catherine Riss is an enthusiastic woman who embarked on this adventure by founding her own wine estate in 2012. Little by little, thanks to the invaluable help of Lucas Rieffel and Antoine Kreydenweiss, she began to make a name for herself. Today, she owns 3.5 hectares of vineyards, whichshe plans to gradually certify as organic.

Catherine Riss’swhite wines come from very different terroirs. The Riesling de Grès and Riesling de Force come from vines planted on sandstone soil on the steep slopes of Reichsfeld. The Dessous de Table cuvée is a subtle blend of Auxerrois and Sylvaner, aged in Burgundy barrels.

The red wines are no exception, having contributed significantly to the wine estate’s success. Notable examples include the “Empreinte” cuvée and the incredible “T’as pas du Schiste” cuvée— Pinot Noirs that are easy to drink and exceptionally refined.
