Magnificent minerality
La Grange de l’Oncle Charles is a wine estate founded by Jérôme François in 2014. Jérôme started out with a tiny 0.5-hectare plot to make his Alsace wines. Today he owns more than 6 hectares of vineyards (phew, we can have a little more wine—though…!!!). Why this wine estate name? Quite simply because he set up shop in his Uncle Charles’s barn in Ostheim. From the very beginning, Jérôme François chose to practice sustainable viticulture that respects his terroir. He cultivates all his vineyards using organic farming methods and following biodynamic principles. All soil work is done with the help of his horse; the rest is done by hand. His values and expertise have quickly earned him a prominent place within the exclusive circle of Alsatian winemakers who know how to imbue their wines with a true identity—first and foremost through hard work in the vineyard.
The wines from the Domaine de la Grange de l’Oncle Charles are somewhat atypical, as they are all produced from mixed plantings. This is a complete departure from traditional Alsatian viticulture!
These are true gastronomic wines that have now earned their place in the world’s finest restaurants.
Mundovin was particularly taken with the “Mille Lieux” cuvées—formerly known as “Alsace” (a blend of 13 grape varieties)—and “Le Village des Amoureux,” formerly known as “Ammerschwihr” (a blend of Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Muscat), “Le Chemin d’À Côté,” formerly known as Sittweg (a blend of Riesling and Pinot Gris), “La Montagne du Scarabée,” formerly known as Kaefferkopf (a blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Muscat, and Gewurztraminer), and the incredible “Le Mont des Clochettes” cuvée, formerly known as Rodern (a blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris).
Please note that all wines from the Domaine de la Grange de l’Oncle Charles are available in very limited quantities.
