Alexandre Bain

Alexandre Bain is an extraterrestrial of the Pouilly Fumé appellation. Along with the Jonathan Didier Pabiot wine estate, he is one of the few winemakers to produce organic and biodynamic wines of outstanding quality.

Alexandre Bain's family did not come from a winegrowing background, so he began training at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune, where he was immediately attracted to the winegrowing profession. His passion was as intense as his desire to create his own wine estate, which is why he settled in Tracy sur Loire in 2007, with only a diploma from the Lycée de Beaune and a wonderful experience with winemaker Olivier Cousin.

He was lucky enough to take over 5 hectares of vines, all in the Pouilly Fumé appellation. At first, it was a bit complicated for Alexandre Bain, as Sauvignon is a capricious grape variety and very complex to vinify. But with his fighting spirit, he never gave up and even set himself the goal of producing the most natural wines possible, without any yeast or chemicals.

Today, Alexandre Bain works on 11 hectares of vines, and his reputation is well established. His Sauvignon wines are of rare precision and elegance. He has meticulously observed his terroir and succeeded in extracting its full potential, notably by making his soil more alive.

The grapes are harvested at perfect ripeness, so none of the Sauvignon's vegetal aromas come through, just the essence of its limestone and marl terroirs.

The cuvée that's a real "coup de cœur" in every way is the Pouilly Fumé Mademoiselle M, which develops notes of citrus, dried fruit and exotic fruit. A superb wine that was downgraded by the Pouilly Fumé appellation body as being too atypical and too orange in color! It's a pity they had to do without this winemaker at the height of his fame. Vin de France or Pouilly Fumé, for us the truth is in the glass.
