Clos du Rouge Gorge
The Clos du Rouge Gorge wine estate is located in the Pyrénées Orientales in the commune of Latour de France , where the Roc des Anges wine estate is also located. Cyril Fhal created this wine estate in 2002 out of passion. He describes himself as a wine gardener who spares no effort to bring out the best in his terroirs.
He was fortunate enough to benefit from exceptional terroirs cultivated on terraces at an altitude of over 200 meters. The soils are composed of schist and gneiss , most of which face north-east. This allows the grapes to ripen slowly, giving the wine greater freshness.
All the vines are cultivated using non-certified biodynamic methods. For Cyril Fhal, as for many of his winemaker friends, wine is first and foremost made in the vineyard. This day-to-day requirement enables us to produce wines with no inputs other than a micro-dose of sulfur at bottling, if necessary. This comes at a cost: yields are among the lowest in the sector, rarely exceeding 18 hectolitres per hectare. The result is so magnificent that we're willing to spend a few extra euros to obtain such incredible wine quality.
The cuvées we were lucky enough to be able to offer you are : Une Vie la Nuit, a top-quality vin de négoce, and the Cuvée du Patron, a superb cuvée of pure Grenache, very full-bodied and juicy. Les Vieilles Vignes is his flagship cuvée, with remarkable ageing potential. We also have a few bottles of his cuvée de blanc, which is just incredible.
We could sum up Cyril Fhal's wines by saying that they are among the finest in Roussillon, but that would be too easy. For that, you need to have tasted them, and when you do, you'll be 200% won over.
Very small quantities.
