Domaine Pierre André's red Châteauneuf du Pape is a must-have in the southern Rhône Valley....
Finesse and complexity
The Pierre André wine estate is located in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. It is a family-owned wine estate that embodies the very essence of traditional winemaking. Founded in 1795, the 18-hectare wine estate has preserved its heritage while modernizing to continue producing exceptional wines. The vines at Domaine Pierre André thrive on stony soils composed of rounded pebbles and red clay. This combination gives the wines unparalleled depth and aromatic complexity.
The wine estate cultivates a variety of traditional grape varieties; the average age of the vines is 70 years, with the oldest reaching 130 years. The grape blend consists primarily of Grenache (80%), followed by 10% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre, and a touch of Cinsault for the red wine. For the white wines, Grenache Blanc makes up the majority, along with a few indigenous grape varieties.
Vineyard care has long been a priority at the wine estate: organic farming has been practiced since 1980. Biodynamic farming followed naturally in 1992: the vines are treated by spraying plant extracts and specific preparations. Finally, the wine estate operates in harmony with cosmic rhythms, with respect for the terroir at the heart of every viticultural decision.
Winemaking at Domaine Pierre André is steeped in tradition. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, andthe winemaking process is “traditional” for the reds (un-destemmed grapes and long vatting periods of 3 to 4 weeks, followed by ageing in oak tanks and vats for 18 to 20 months). The wines are not filtered but are clarified only with fresh egg whites from organic ageing. For the white wine, after pressing and light settling, it ferments at a temperature between 19 and 20°C in used vats.
The wines of the Pierre André wine estate are distinguished by their elegance and balance. The reds reveal aromas of ripe red fruits, spices, and garrigue, while the white offers an aromatic palette centered on citrus and white flowers. These wines are built for aging and blossom beautifully over time.
