Long description
Champagne Léon, founded by Clément Robert as a tribute to his great-grandfather, is a wine estate located in Landreville, in the heart of the Côte des Bar in Champagne. It extends over some 8 hectares, cultivating grape varieties typical of the region: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Blanc, the latter being historic for this locality. Clément Robert, who comes from a line of winegrowers, made the decision to create unique champagnes, centered on artisanal techniques and a faithful expression of terroir. Since 2019, he has been making the transition to organic and biodynamic viticulture for sustainable, environmentally-friendly viticulture.
Domaine Léon champagnes are characterized by their precision and authenticity, produced exclusively in vintage to capture each harvest with its unique nuances. The cuvées are aged in oak barrels, allowing for natural aromatic richness and increased complexity, and are unfined to preserve the purity of the aromas. The wine estate's creations include Cuvée Enchevêtrer, a Blanc de Noirs made from the historic "La Chevêtrée" plots, and Cuvée La Grande Côte, a single-vineyard Blanc de Blancs that embodies the essence of the eponymous parcel. Most recently, the cuvée Derrière L'Eglise, a 100% Pinot Noir from a parcel in Landreville with a south-western exposure and limono-argilo-calcareous soil.
The champagnes from the Léon wine estate, produced on a small scale, are sought-after for their artisanal quality. They express a singular character, blending tradition and innovation, with an approach focused on natural wines, without resorting to the intensive techniques of commercial winemaking.
