Domaine Agapé’s Gewurztraminer Expression is one of the crowning achievements of this family-run wine estate based in Alsace. Since 2007, Vincent Sipp has sought to highlight the local vineyard’s iconic grape varieties through the Expression cuvées, which capture the essence of each terroir. For this vintage, he selected old Gewurztraminer vines planted in 1972 in the Weissengrund vineyard in Hunawihr. The clay soil—which gives the vineyard its name, “white earth”—retains winter moisture while releasing warmth and minerality during the summer ripening period, creating a balance between richness and tension. The grapes, harvested at full ripeness and sorted by hand, are vinified using minimalist methods to preserve the pure expression of the fruit and the terroir.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: “The balance between aromatic intensity and liveliness in Agapé’s Gewürztraminer Expression is surprising. Its flavor profile exudes undeniable elegance and harmony, reflecting a perfect mastery of the grape variety.” This wine embodies both Alsatian tradition and the creative spirit of Domaine Agapé.
On the nose, the wine exudes a profusion of citrus and exotic fruits, with the freshness of lychee elegantly taking center stage. Notes of rose—typical of the grape variety—and a hint of sweet spices add depth to the bouquet without weighing it down.
On the palate, the attack is powerful and silky, carried by a rich texture that envelops the palate. The mid-palate unfolds with a generous array of ripe fruit, while maintaining a subtle saline tension. Hints of sweet spices add a subtle dimension. The finish, full-bodied and lingering, hints at a subtle, characteristic sweetness.
