The Alain Voge wine estate's "Les Côtes" cuvée is an emblematic red wine of the Saint-Joseph appellation . The Syrah vines, planted from 1999 onwards, are trained in a goblet system on steep plots near Mauves, a terroir characterized by granite soils. This composition gives the wine a distinctive minerality and remarkable freshness. The south-facing slopes ensure optimum ripening of the grapes, while environmentally-friendly growing methods preserve the vineyard's natural balance.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Depending on the vintage, between 10 and 20% of the grapes are vinified as whole bunches, the rest being destemmed. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, followed by several weeks' maceration in stainless steel tanks, with daily punching down and pumping over to extract color and aromas. Ageing lasts 16 months in 400-liter barrels, without the use of new wood, allowing the wine to develop its complexity without being dominated by oak.
The nose is seductive, blending aromas of fresh red fruits such as raspberry and cherry with floral notes of violet and spicy nuances of white pepper and licorice.
On the palate, the wine offers a crisp attack with dynamic acidity reminiscent of raspberry. The texture is elegant, the tannins fine and well-integrated, and the granitic minerality adds an extra dimension. The finish is long, marked by fruity notes and a hint of wood.
