Wine Description

Domaine Alain Voge 's Cornas Les Chailles comes from a very special terroir in the appellation, made up of granitic terraces adjoining a limestone hillside. Over the centuries, this proximity has given rise to a soil of granitic and calcareous scree known as chailles, from which the cuvée takes its name. The Syrah vines, planted some forty years ago, are cultivated organically and biodynamically to respect the natural balance. Hand harvesting selects the finest bunches, most of which are then destemmed before fermentation in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for 18 months in old oak barrels, without new wood, to avoid leaving a woody imprint.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin :Domaine Alain Voge 's Cornas Les Chailles displays an extremely gourmand profile from the very first years, while retaining a slender, deliciously fresh profile. A rare and precise balance, where the Syrah offers a fine and precise expression of this singular terroir despite the different vintages.

On the nose, the wine is highly expressive, taking us into a world marked by stewed black fruits, noble spices and a hint of cocoa. As the wine opens, floral notes make their appearance, bringing elegance and freshness to the almost lardy animal notes that emerge.

The very long palate reveals perfectly ripe Syrah, with soft, supple tannins. The dense body reveals great volume, with flavors of stewed fruit, peony and flint. The long finish reveals the liquorice and pepper notes typical of the grape variety. This persistent varietal shows great potential for evolution.
