Domaine Agapé 's Riesling Grand Cru Osterberg owes its uniqueness to its unique terroir, located in the commune of Ribeauvillé, Alsace. Situated on a south-east-facing hillside in the highest part of the vineyard, between 250 and 350 meters above sea level, the Triassic marl-sandstone soil gives the Riesling a sustained minerality, while the cool night-time temperatures allow the berries to ripen slowly and evenly. The old vines draw a remarkable natural tension from this terroir, and the resulting Riesling combines freshness and fullness, the fruit of a perfect balance between lively acidity and advanced ripeness.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : The Riesling Grand Cru Osterberg is remarkably straightforward. Its saline vivacity asserts itself from the outset, without ever becoming aggressive. Each glass reproduces the typicity of this Alsace terroir with authenticity. This is a wine that seduces with its balance and aromatic precision.
On the nose, the wine releases intense notes of candied citrus, with hints of bergamot jam revealing themselves with magnificent amplitude.
On the palate, the attack is frank and greedy, carried by a salivating acidity that immediately structures the palate. The mid-palate shows a dry character, asserting the roundness of the fruit without any sweetness. Aromas of overripe orchard fruit are skilfully counterbalanced by a graceful, mineral tension. The finish is strikingly pure, prolonged by the precise minerality of Grand Cru Osterberg.
