Champagne Blanc de Blancs from the Benoit Lahaye wine estate comes from a very small parcel of old Chardonnay vines planted in 1952 on very chalky soil in a place called "Monts Ferrés". The soil is worked by horse and certified biodynamic methods. The Blanc de Blancs cuvée is always made from two separately vinified vintages.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Benoit Lahaye's Blanc de Blancs is a rich yet fine champagne that has been cellared for 4 years. 2 years on its lees in barrel and then two more years on laths. The expression of Chardonnay is sublimated by the brilliant Benoit Lahaye, winemaker of the year 2022.
On the nose, the wine opens with beautiful notes of yellow and exotic fruits. The aromatic expression is much more intense than on most of the champagnes I've tasted. This is thanks to the superb ageing of the Chardonnay, which reveals all its splendor and generosity.
The palate is creamy, luscious and intensely fleshy. The bubbles are fine and silky without aggressiveness, in the purest Benoît Lahaye style. The finish ends on pretty mineral notes and hints of bitter orange peel.
