Wine Description

Domaine Bruno Lorenzon 's Mercurey Le Chapitre is a shining example of the expertise of a winemaker recognized as a true Mercurey maestro. In the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, Domaine Lorenzon cultivates the Le Chapitre parcel, an exceptional terroir with clay-limestone soils perfectly suited to Pinot Noir. Classified as a "first class" terroir by ampelographer A. Budker as early as 1874, this climat has all the hallmarks of a Mercurey 1er Cru. Today, Domaine Lorenzon perpetuates this tradition of quality with rare precision: hand-worked vines, deliberately limited yields, organic viniculture. Meticulous winemaking is carried out using the grapes' own yeasts, and ageing lasts 13 months in barrels, a quarter of which are new. The wine then rests for 6 months in stainless steel vats before bottling. Bruno Lorenzon 's meticulous approach aims to preserve the purity of Pinot Noir and reveal the depth of this singular cru.

Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin : Domaine Bruno Lorenzon 's Mercurey Le Chapitre brilliantly expresses the philosophy of this great Côte Chalonnaise winemaker. Although it can be enjoyed young for its brilliance and generous fruitiness, Le Chapitre is a wine made for laying down. Its tannic structure and balance promise a harmonious evolution over 10 to 15 years, offering tertiary aromas of great nobility. Its aromatic finesse, precision and depth make it one of Mercurey 's leading red wines. Both seductive and structured, it perfectly embodies the singular style of Domaine Lorenzon.

On the nose, the Mercurey Le Chapitre bouquet seduces with its immediate intensity of fresh cherry and juicy raspberry, ripe blueberry and blackcurrant. Juicy red fruits explode in the glass with remarkable intensity. Complex notes of undergrowth, licorice and sandalwood lend a refined depth, whose nobility is accentuated by a very fine woodiness.

On the palate, the wine is concentrated and juicy, with a caressing texture. The elegant density of the tannins hints at a mature structure that will delight the most impatient palates in the next year or two. The ripe acidity melts delightfully into the bright red and black fruit flavors. The woody imprint takes on noble accents on the finish, where aromas of undergrowth, pepper and licorice prolong the tasting on a vibrant note. A moment of pure emotion, crafted with patience and precision by Mercurey's maestro.
