Racy, authentic and elegant are not enough to describe this exceptional Chambolle Musigny from Christophe Roumier.
Domaine Georges Roumier's Chambolle Musigny is one of the most renowned wines in Burgundy. This wine estate, owned by Christophe Roumier, is renowned for the complexity and incredible ageing capacity of its wines. In fact, some of its cuvées can age for over 20 years without wrinkling, which is very rare in this type of appellation, especially Chambolle Musigny. The Georges Roumier wine estate sets the standard and is undoubtedly one of the leading producers of Chambolle Musigny, Morey Saint Denis and Bonnes Mares.
To reach this level, Christophe Roumier has done an exceptional job of observing his vines, using techniques that are unique on the Côte de Nuits. It was he, for example, who introduced the system of transplanting vines rather than simply uprooting them. In addition, he uses very few new barrels compared with his colleagues - around 10%, and only for the premier crus.
Philippe Mischler, sommelier at Mundovin: Christophe Roumier's one and only aim is to let nature express itself with as little intervention as possible. It's this vision that has made the wine estate a benchmark in the Chambolle Musigny, Morey Saint Denis and Bonnes Mares appellations.
The nose is fine, precise and very elegant, in the image of the appellation but with an added intensity. Notes of morello cherry, redcurrant and hints of rose are revealed with class. This is the nose of a great wine, there's no mistaking it..
On the palate, this is a wine out of the ordinary, a Chambolle Musigny that has shoulders but always remains elegant. It's deep, velvety and uniquely dense.
